Your equipment takes care of you by getting the job done. You want to make sure you're taking care of it in return.

This equipment was a big investment, so you want to know that it will last a long time. Doing routine maintenance and other preventative actions can help prevent having to repair the rubber track. Doing repairs means you can't use that equipment. When you can't use the equipment, you lose both time and money. Regular maintenance is the better option for efficiency.

Here are some tips for taking care of your rubber track's undercarriage:

  • Get it inspected: You should do an inspection before every job. Walk around the machine and make sure everything looks like it's in place. Every few months, you should also complete a thorough inspection. Lift the machine and take the tension off. Doing so should show you if there are any serious issues that need to be addressed. If you do find problems, be sure to fix them straight away. Operating these machines with damaged or broken pieces can cause even more severe issues down the line.
  • Clean it: At the end of every job, be sure to clean out the undercarriage. Mud and snow may not seem too bad in smaller quantities, but a large buildup of debris can cause serious problems. A high-pressure water hose should do the job, but use other tools as needed. You can use a bar or shovel to get pieces loose that the washer can't get out and a small tool like a screwdriver to get into small places.
  • Drive it right: This may seem like a no-brainer. Even though it's a little obvious, it's still important. There are lots of things you may be doing while driving a truck with a rubber track that are harmful. As a general rule, try to keep even pressure on both tracks. You should also go up and down slopes in a straight line, try to avoid driving in reverse as much as possible and alternate your turning directions as often as you can.
